What makes this site unique is that they have the actual textbooks that your child is probably using in high school. This means your child doesn't get theoretical help - your child actually clicks on the textbook he or she has in his or her hands, clicks on the page - then clicks on the ACTUAL PROBLEM he or she is grappling with! I am a middle school Algebra 1 teacher at Charlotte Wood Middle School, Danville, California. I demonstrated Hotmath to students in the first weeks of school, being sure to coach them on the appropriate use of the site and explaining what a helpful resource it could be for them. I advertised it to parents at back to school night as well, and alerted them to how they should see their students using it as well. It is a great tool for them, and for me as a teacher. I find that students come to class better prepared to ask questions about their homework, opening with comments like, "I had trouble with number 42 last night, and checked on Hotmath. I checked out the site, and found it very useful. My daughter's calculus book is one of those listed, and we used it to find the step-by-step answer to one of her odd-numbered homework problems. She thinks it will be helpful. As her tutor, I like the site, too, because it doesn't just give the answers, it *teaches* math. As long as the student clicks the "hint" and tries it himself before getting the answer, he will learn. Frankly, even if he clicks the down arrow, and copies the work onto his homework paper, he's likely to learn more than just not doing the homework. So the long and short of it is that this site is very helpful as a teaching tool, in combination with one of the listed textbooks. Graeme

Algebra is not easy for me and I often find it hard to explain how to solve a problem even if I see the answer in the answer key. Thank you for your help. Sherri
Generally, the Hotmath website is working out very well for students. They were all disappointed when the even problems got cut out. I told them I didn't know why that happened, but guessed you were getting pressure from some teachers about making it too easy for kids to "cheat." I can name specific students that I know are using and learning so much with it as an assistant. They are working hard and know they will do very well on my quizes by working through the problems and getting help as needed. I don't think I have anybody just copying stuff down. Kids too lazy to work on homework are too lazy to write down all the steps even if they are available. Larry

This is the greatest idea to ever come out of a human mind (almost). Who ever made up this site is a genius. Thank you so much for a wonderful site. This has greatly helped me get through my eighth grade year, without it I would flunk. I love how it shows you the steps. That way you can learn how to do the problem instead of just copying the answer, and I like the fact that it corresponds with my textbook (CPM Algebra 1). This site is amazing and so please keep up the good work. P.S. You should try to do this with other textbooks like English, History, and Science.

I love this website. Best thing ever! I'm in my 2nd semester of calculus, and it hasn't been too bad. I find I've been having trouble with just one or two steps though, and our solutions manual doesn't show all the steps. I ran into my previous calc instructor and he told me about your website. I've been using it for a week, and I love it! I told my class about the site. I just wanted to say thanks for saving me from going crazy every time I have homework issues.
